Richard Wiet, MD; Robert Battista, MD; Arvind Kumar, MD

in the January 2007 issue of Chicago magazine

Richard J. Wiet, M.D., F.A.C.S., founded The Chicago Otology Group, Ltd in 1982 (later renamed the Ear Institute of Chicago, LLC in 2005). He is Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology at Northwestern University. Dr. Wiet has trained over twenty-one physicians in the subspecialty of neurotology. Among Dr. Wiet's other accomplishments are: Past president, American Neurotology Society; Chicago Magazine, "Best Physicians in Chicago"; and publication of over one hundred peer-reviewed journal articles and textbooks. He has served three terms for the Acoustic Neuroma Association Medical Advisory Board and has written twenty-one articles related to patients afflicted with acoustic neuromas. Dr. Wiet is also an editorial reviewer for four medical journals. He has initiated many innovations in the state of Illinois including the first to implant a patient with a cochlear implant, the first to implant a patient with an auditory brain stem implant and early involvement with implantable hearing systems for patients with hearing loss.

Robert A. Battista, M.D., joined The Ear Institute of Chicago, LLC in August 1997. Prior to joining the group, Dr. Battista was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. At Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center, Dr. Battista was Head of the Rush Cochlear Implant Team and Director of the Temporal Bone Laboratory. Dr. Battista is an Assistant Professor in Clinical Otolaryngology at Northwestern University.

Arvind Kumar, M.D., joined The Ear Institute of Chicago, LLC in July 2002. Prior to joining the group, Dr. Kumar was a Professor in the Departments of Otolaryngology and Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

R. Mark Wiet, M.D., joined the Ear Institute of Chicago, LLC in November 2008. Prior to joining the group, Dr. Mark Wiet trained in Neurotology at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI. Dr. Mark Wiet has distinguished himself by receiving both the American Neurotology Society, Neurotology Fellowship Award in 2008 and the European Skull Base Society Fellowship Award in 2007. He is currently the director of the Neurotology Program at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he is an Assistant Professor in Clinical Otolaryngology.
